NedRailways becomes Abellio | |

| NedRailways today announced the launch of its new name, Abellio. The decision follows the company’s expansion from an owning group with two UK rail franchises into a European public transport company. Set up as a subsidiary of Netherlands Railways in 2001 for the purpose of acquiring and operating transport services outside the Netherlands, Abellio now has major rail and bus interests in the UK and Germany, as well as bus operations in the Czech Republic. Commenting on the rebranding decision, Chief Executive Anton Valk said, “ The expansion of NedRailways from the UK to Germany and the Czech Republic and from rail into bus marks the start of a new era for our business. The first manifestation of that new era is a new name: Abellio. The name has been lifted from our German company and allows us to develop our business and build on the existing strengths in our portfolio in a cost effective and efficient manner. In time, all our operating companies will either carry the new brand or be endorsed by it. This process started in the UK in 2009 with our bus operations Abellio London and Abellio Surrey.“ | |
