NedRailways acquisition reinforces long term commitment to UK transport market
9 June 2009
NedRailways today completed its acquisition of National Express Group’s London bus business, Travel London. The deal represents NedRailways first step into the UK bus sector, and reinforces the company’s overall commitment to the UK transport market.

Commenting on the acquisition, Anton Valk, NedRailways CEO said,

“This is a very important step for NedRailways and underlines our commitment to growing our presence in the UK. Travel London and Travel Surrey are excellent companies which fit very well with our portfolio of UK businesses which continue to perform well and experience growth despite current economic circumstances. Indeed, we look forward to adding further to
that portfolio as new opportunities emerge in both the rail and bus sectors.”

Dominic Booth NedRailways UK MD added:

“This is an exciting development, and in keeping with the successful approach of our other UK businesses, Northern Rail and Merseyrail, we now look forward to working closely with Transport for London and Surrey County Council to further enhance the quality of services provided to passengers.

Partnership with stakeholders and excellence in customer service lay at the heart of the planning and decision making processes of all our rail and bus companies. Travel London and Travel Surrey will now join this family of businesses and operate within a framework of international best practice exchange, which helps us to ensure that the very best of the expertise available from across our group is accessible to each individual business.
Our immediate focus, however, will be on supporting Paul McGowan, his management team, and the rest of the staff to build on existing standards of excellence and reliability.”

Commenting on the completion of the acquisition, Paul McGowan MD of Travel London, said,

“Since the Business was formed in 2004 Travel London and subsequently Travel Surrey in 2007 has achieved much growth and success. I’m pleased with our new shareholder and the additional value NedRailways brings to the company.
I look forward to further develop the business in partnership with our key Stakeholders.
With the support of all of the team and staff we have won new TfL routes and further enhanced services operated on behalf of Surrey County Council, improving the quality
of service given to our customers.
The Investors In People national standard was achieved in 2008 reflecting the continual commitment to the training and development of all of our employees.“
