George Barron – Group HR & Change Director Abellio Group
 


George joined Abellio in June 2011 in the newly defined role of Group HR &
Change Director, reflecting the Board’s recognition of the pivotal importance
of our people in delivering the ambitious growth strategy. In this role George
is accountable for the development and implementation of a comprehensive
People & Change Strategy which will:
  • ensure that we have the necessary organisational capabilities to fulfil our strategic objectives
  • enable us to attract, retain, develop and fully engage the requisite talent to achieve sustainable competitive advantage
  • establish and embed a performance driven culture where our people and
    teams reflect the values & behaviours enshrined in the Abellio Way within
    an environment which enables them to individually and collectively realise
    their full potential

Although originally graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering from his
home city of Edinburgh, George has extensive international HR experience
derived across a number of industry sectors. George joined Abellio from British American Tobacco plc where he was Group Head of Employee Relations and
prior to that, Head of Organisational Development & Effectiveness.

Previously George held the position of Divisional HR Director with De La Rue,
the bank note and security printing group, involving extensive mergers and acquisitions activities as well as driving significant business transformation initiatives. George also enjoyed a period working in consultancy including assignments with Texas Pacific, one of the largest private equity groups.
