Abellio is one of the leading private railway transport companies in Germany. The company is head-quartered in Berlin and operates rail networks in the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Hessen, Thuringia, Brandenburg, Berlin and Baden-Württemberg.
Abellio Rail NRW GmbH in Hagen, Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland GmbH in Halle, Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart as well as WestfalenBahn GmbH in Bielefeld are responsible for ongoing operations.
As Abellio Rail NRW, we operate regional rail transport services across several rail lines throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, including the Ruhr-Sieg network between Essen, Hagen, Iserlohn and Siegen. We have also been operating the "Der Müngstener" route steeped in tradition since December 2013, running over Germany’s highest rail-way bridge. Since April 2017 Abellio is responsible for the cross-border route between Düsseldorf and the Dutch city of Arnhem by operating the Lower Rhine network. Abellio Rail NRW also operates the major mobility project "Rhine-Ruhr-Express" (RE 1 Aachen – Hamm and RE 11 Düsseldorf – Kassel) and the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn with six lines connecting cities like Essen, Oberhausen and Dortmund.
Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland GmbH has been ensuring mobility for those travelling between Kassel, Halle (Saale), Leipzig, Eisenach, Erfurt and Saalfeld on the Saale-Thuringia-Südharz electric network since 2015. Since December 2018 Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland also commence passenger operations on the Saxony-Anhalt diesel network. Passengers in central Germany are able to travel with us f.e. in between the major cities of Erfurt, Magdeburg, Potsdam and Berlin.
Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg GmbH operates along the Neckartal valley as part of the Stuttgart network between Tübingen, Stuttgart Heidelberg and Mannheim.
In December 2017, Abellio Deutschland became the sole shareholder of WestfalenBahn. The WestfalenBahn links the cities of Emden, Münster, Bielefeld, Hannover and Braunschweig along the Emsland-Mittelland network.

Currently Abellio Germany runs 113 train vehicles on 22 lines serving 110.000 passengers a day. In 2020 the company will run 275 train vehicles on 49 lines serving 260.000 passengers a day. Abellio continues to participate in bids for routes to complement the existing portfolio.
