Merseyrail is a 50:50 joint venture between Serco and Abellio. The concession started on 20 July 2003 with review dates every five years.
It is an urban network of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of Liverpool and its environs. It is one of the most punctual and reliable railway networks in the UK, with consistenaly high scores for customer satisfaction.
With 830 runs per day carrying over 110,000 passengers, the Merseyrail network is one of the most intensively used networks in the UK. It operates on a clockface, regular interval timetable. Trains are every 15 minutes and 5 minutes in the city centre. It has 177 trains with 59 of them completely refurbished.
