Merseyrail is a 50:50 joint venture between Abellio UK and Serco. Together, we operate one of the most punctual and reliable rail networks in the UK, with almost 800 trains per day travelling between 67 stations, four of which are underground in the city centre, giving commuters easy access to work, shopping and leisure.
The Merseyrail network is crucial to Liverpool and the surrounding area, being one of the most intensively used networks in the country. To help improve journeys, we've invested millions of pounds to transform Liverpool Central, the underground station with the biggest footfall outside London. We're also launching a new fleet of state-of-the-art trains on the network from 2020, as part of a £460million investment in the railway.
We've enhanced our services and the accessibility of our stations, and set up 47 station adoption schemes and over 100 volunteers who help us collaborate with local communities to keep our stations safe and secure. We're also one of the best performing rail operators in the country, regularly achieving a high ranking in the National Rail Passenger Satisfaction (NRPS) poll.
The Merseyrail concession agreement lasts until 2028, with review dates every five years, and we look forward to carrying on our great work long into the future.
